Also, with the Fethead, you don’t need to purchase any additional XLR cables. The Fethead just plugs right into your microphone, which is pretty neat. So, why would you go for the Cloudlifter over the Fethead? Lets dive in a little bit deeper here and find out.
Why The Cloudlifter Over The Fethead
There are two main reasons why you would purchase the Cloudlifter over the Fethead. The first reason is that the Cloudlifter provides slightly cleaner gain than the Fethead. Overall, the Fethead provides more gain, but the Fethead also introduces slightly more noise. So with the Cloudlifter, your noise floor should be slightly lower. The second reason why you would get the Cloudlifter is that the build quality is superior to that of the Fethead. When we were testing the Cloudlifter, we noticed that the whole thing is made out of a nice heavy metal. The Cloudlifter will likely last you a lifetime.
Why Should Someone Get The Fethead
One of the main reasons to purchase the Fethead is that you will save money. Buying the Fethead saves you around $60 or so and that’s not including the extra XLR cable you would need in order for the Cloudlifter to work. Additionally, the Fethead is smaller and more compact. The Fethead may be a good option for those who have a small space as the device is smaller and you don’t need an additional XLR cable. Also, during our tests, the Fethead provided less color to our sound which is a good thing. The Cloudlifter seemed to color our sound slightly more than the Fethead. However, when the gain is pushed to extremes, the Fethead has a slightly higher noise floor.
I Still Don’t Know Which One To Get
If you are on a budget we recommend buying the Fethead as it will do the job and you will save quite a bit of money in the process. However, if you do have the money to spend we recommend buying the Cloudlifter as it will provide cleaner gain and it will likely last longer than the Fethead because of its higher quality components. Both options are fantastic and at the end of the day, the Fethead and the Cloudlifter will provide you more than enough clean gain to make your dynamic mics shine. Thanks for reading.
