So, What mic does the streamer Ninja use? Believe it or not, Ninja uses a very simple setup for his audio. Even with all of his fame, Ninja’s mic is still the Audio-Technica AT2035. It truly is a good mic and we can see why Ninja is still using this awesome piece of hardware. Now, we don’t recommend using this mic the way ninja does, but if you want to replicate his sound, you’re going to want to place the mic about 3-4 feet away from your face. By doing this, it gives him more of a natural sound, as the mic is not super close to the source.
Does Ninja Use Post-Processing?
After listening to Ninja’s sound, we don’t believe he uses any post-processing. Since he places the mic so far away, the mic already sounds bright and there isn’t very much post-processing to do here. If you’re going to get the Audio-Technica AT2035, we also recommend getting the Scarlet Solo if you don’t have an audio interface. This setup will get you one of the cheapest professional sounds for the money. There’s a reason Ninja is still using the Audio-Technica AT2035. It’s a fantastic mic and we highly recommend trying it out.
It’s All About Mic Positioning
As a side note, if you really want to use this mic properly, we would recommend using it closer to your face and using a pop filter. This will get you a better overall sound and it will also pick up less room noise this way. However, if you purely want to replicate Ninja’s sound, you’ll want to keep the microphone at a distance. Both techniques produce good results and it really is a matter a preference. Try it out both ways and see which sound you like better.
Should I Get This Mic Or The USB Version?
We truly believe that the Audio-Technica AT2035 is one of the better budget mics to own. It’s important to keep your upgrade path open. If you go with the Audio-Technica AT2035, you’ll need an audio interface like the Scarlet Solo because it’s an XLR mic. This may seem like a negative but, this allows you to upgrade to a better mic in the future and you’re really investing in the longevity of your equipment. So, a USB mic has its positives because it would be cheaper for the initial setup but, the XLR route keeps your upgrade path open and provides better quality. We recommend going the XLR path but both options have merit!
